Good News!

Join us on December 4, as we celebrate becoming a recognized ISD church

What is Metaphysics?

Metaphysics is a philosophy that views the universe, the phenomena around us, from two perspectives.  The first tries to identify or explain the nature of man, of being and the universe.  In this way it is very closely allied to science.  It is a philosophy that attempts to explain the essential nature of being and the created universe of all reality.  The second perspective is that as metaphysics starts to explore reality, it comes to the understanding of a higher truth.  It does not simply take things as they are.  Metaphysics parallels religion in that way because as we begin to examine the universe, we are led to the conclusion that there is something that cannot be perceived by the senses that lies behind all reality.

What to Expect

Through discussion, meditation and our own gifts, we will explore our connection with the universe we live in. Using our connection with the universal All, we will tune into the universal consciousness.  Through our higher selves, learn to take back our personnel power.

Group Leader Rev. Pennie Roland

I am an ordained minister with the Institute for Spiritual Development (ISD) located in Sparta, NJ.  ISD also has churches in Washington, DC, Madison, NJ, Oneonta, NY and Sarasota FL.  Through spiritual services, classes, lectures and celebrations, ISD promotes Metaphysical living.

I call all who are searching to reconcile all that you were taught in the past, with all you feel today.  I ask you not to "throw the baby out with the bath water" but to explore the higher meaning of this information.

From Rev. Kathy Kerston, Spiritual Advisor

Through classes and various activities, we offer many opportunities to help you expand your awareness and enrich your involvement, and it is our hope that you will explore and pursue all the avenues that interest you.  We look forward to assisting you in this wonderful metaphysical adventure.

As you may know, federal law stipulates that in order to be accredited as a church, an organization must have a distinct set of beliefs.  Our Declaration of Principles, is the standard of beliefs which express our unique understanding and identity and define us as a metaphysical organization.  These statements not only express the core of the church’s identity, but, more importantly, stipulate the beliefs which unite all ISD members.  While still allowing for the expression of individual beliefs, the principles form a platform of uniformity.
In its finest expression, the institute is a non-denominational, non-dogmatic church celebrating the diversity of spiritual thought and experience through which all may learn, prosper and grow.   Sharing the extraordinary wealth of spiritual expression without setting unreasonable standards of doctrine, the church and the Declaration of Principles stand as an invitation to the seeker of truth, a welcome oasis for the expression of unconditional love and acceptance.

Thus, with love do we greet you, and with hope do we grow with you—not by the efforts of one or a few, but by the energy of all.

About Us

Declaration of Principals

Following is an annotated version of the Declaration of Principles:

WE BELIEVE IN INFINITE INTELLIGENCE
The Principles are not placed in any order of importance, except this one!  It is from this that all that follows has meaning.
Often, one of the first questions asked about the institute is: “Do you believe in God?”
In the first statement of the Declaration of Principles, we attest to the existence of a Supreme Entity from which all creation flows.  This Source is the source of all things visible and invisible and the beginning and the end of all manifestation.
WE BELIEVE THAT INFINITE INTELLEGENCE EXPRESSES ITSELF IN ALL EXISTENCE AND IN HUMANITY AS A MANIFESTATION OF DIVINE LOVE.
As you cannot separate an artist from his or her work, the presence of the Infinite Creator must be inherent in every aspect of the manifest universe.  In one of the most dramatic descriptions of God, the evangelist John states, “God is love” (1 John 4:8).   As participants in the Divine Nature, it follows that we experience and express the perfect love of the Infinite Mind.  This is a love based on the recognition that each person is an expression of the Divine in creation.
WE AFFIRM THE UNITY OF ALL LIFE EVERYWHERE.
As all things flow from the Infinite Mind, it follows that all life is one, whatever its manifestation.   The bond of creation ties all living things to each other.
WE BELIEVE IN COMMUNION WITH ALL PLANES OF EXISTENCE, AND THAT MEANINGFUL COMMUNICATION FLOWS FROM THIS CONNECTION.
Everything is vibration.  In this vibratory universe, we are capable of both emitting and receiving vibrations.  As we attune our receptors, we are capable of connecting with and thereby communicating with the vibrations above and below our own.  When we consciously attune ourselves to a vibration, we are able to connect and communicate with that level of vibration.
WE AFFIRM THE DIVINE RIGHT OF EACH INDIVIDUAL TO SEEK THE TRUTH IN ACCORDANCE WITH THEIR CONSCIOUSNESS, AND THAT LIVING IN HARMONY WITH THAT TRUTH DEFINES TRUE SPIRITUALITY.
There is no absolute truth in the finite world.  That is the purview of the Infinite Mind and belongs to It only.  Therefore, all truths are partial and incomplete.  We have been given a higher sense, which allows the individual to perceive the truth that resonates with him or her.  We are then responsible to live up to what we perceive as true.  Living life based on the principles and philosophy the individual accepts as true places each on his or her path of spiritual enlightenment.

WE AFFIRM THAT SPIRITUAL UNFOLDMENT IS PROGRESSIVE AND UNENDING, AND THAT THE DOORWAY TO REFORMATION IS NEVER CLOSED AGAINST ANY SOUL.
Any evolutionary process demonstrates movement and progression.  The drive of evolution is constantly upward, leading to ever higher and progressive states of being and awareness.  If we consider that the end of all existence and experience is the ultimate reunion with God, lifetime after lifetime is a perpetual journey of spiritual awakening.  Our purpose, our ultimate destiny, is to be reunited with our loving Creator.
WE BELIEVE THAT THE HIGHEST MORALITY IS CONTAINED IN THE MANDATE:  “DO UNTO OTHERS AS YOU WOULD HAVE THEM DO UNTO YOU.”
The ancient adage, “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you,” is less a suggestion than a moral imperative.  As human beings functioning in a complex society, we are guided by codes of conduct to ensure the wellbeing of the group and the security of the individual.
Most of the time, we are unaware of just what is guiding our conduct and decisions.  We all want to be treated honestly and fairly, with kindness and respect.  We all want to be loved.  We all want to be accepted for the people we are.  If we use these desires for ourselves as our guiding principles for our treatment of others, we create a formula for a successful society and a happy, spiritually attuned, personal life.
WE AFFIRM THE PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY OF THE INDIVIDUAL, AND THAT WE CHOOSE OUR HAPPINESS OR UNHAPPINESS AS WE APPLY THE LAWS OF THE UNIVERSE.
The experiences of life tell us that success depends on the amount of effort we put into achieving our goals.  Our words and actions establish the direction and quality of our life.  We are responsible for the choices we make and for the consequences arising from those choices.
WE AFFIRM THAT LIFE IS ETERNAL, AND THAT THE EXISTENCE AND PERSONAL IDENTITY OF THE INDIVIDUAL CONTINUE AFTER THE CHANGE CALLED DEATH.
The affirmation of the continuity of consciousness is a belief dating back to the dimmest past of human memory.  We see death as a passage into another sphere, not the termination of the individual’s life.
WE BELIEVE THE ULTIMATE EXPRESSION OF GOD IN OUR LIFE IS UNCONDITIONAL LOVE OF OUR NEIGHBORS AND OURSELVES.
The Infinite Creator must love Its creation, and that love must be perfect and unconditional.  Our brother Jesus directed us to “Love one another, even as I have loved you” (John 13:34).  For those on a true spiritual path, there is a singular reality—we are all one, united by the mind of the Infinite Creator.  No condition, exception or illusion of separation can alter our obligation to love everyone as a manifestation of the All.  Since we can only give what we have, that unconditional love must begin with ourselves.
WE ACCEPT THAT THE LIVING GIFTS OF PROPHECY AND HEALING, REPORTED IN ALL SACRED SCRIPTURE, ARE AN AFFIRMATION OF DIVINE SPIRIT WORKING TROUGH US.
The Source of All is the source of all spiritual phenomena.  We are the instruments of that Power as we allow it to move through us.  We are the vehicles by which the perfection of creation is brought about.  We are co-creators of our individual reality, and as such, we partake in the Divine creative force.  The gifts of the Spirit referred to by the evangelist Paul in Corinthians are not phenomena isolated to a distant age.  They continue to manifest through all ages, as the Spirit continues to work through the world.  “Now there are diversities of gifts, but there is only one Spirit.   There are diversities of powers, but it is the one God who works all things in all men” (1 Corinthians 12:4).  Through Spirit, God enables us to manifest the gifts of healing and prophecy.

Connections

I am you and you are me and we are them and they are we,

And this is that and that is this now is there anything I've missed?

The universe is all you see and all you don’t and you and me;

We are connected one and all, through energy, the rise the fall;

A spec of fear, a bit of doubt, before you know it war breaks out.

A mother cries and takes a stand, ANOTHER war within our land;

It only takes one voice you see, to cause discord, disharmony;

So why not choose to just live free, to live in peace, to let it be.

If you but make a conscious choice, then you will soon become the voice;

And others soon will see the light that you give off, that shines so bright;

They may not recognize its true, the energy that comes from you;

But it will change the way they feel and soon their light will be revealed

And they will pass it on, it’s true, the light of peace they got from you;

We’re all connected and you’ll see the light of you that shines in me!
